Learning has never been so easy!

Full walk-through for New Installation.

9 Steps total

Step 1: Download Citrix DNE

You will need to download the Stand-alone Installer for the DNE that is included with the Cisco VPN Installer - for unknown reasons, the Cisco Installer will fail to install it. You can get this from:
ftp://files.citrix.com/dneupdate64.msi

Step 2: Install Citrix DNE

Standard Install, Run MSI, Agree to EUA and click Next until Finish.

Step 3: Download Cisco VPN 64-bit Installer

Presuming if you are reading this, you either have the Installer already or have a contract with Cisco so you can get it form their support system. The latest (and to my knowledge, last version) is 5.0.07.0290. Once you have downloaded, run.

Step 4: Install Cisco VPN Client

When the Unzip Wizard opens, change the path to someone easy to access and click Unzip. If you have UAC enabled, you will get a prompt to run the Installer, click No - if you don't gave UAC installed, you will get an error - ignore the error and move to next step.

Step 5: Run the Installer

Open the folder you extracted the files to and run vpnclient_setup.msi (not one with the UAC Shield, Windows 10 will block it.)

Step 6: Follow SOP for Installer

Click Next, Next, Next, Finish.

Step 7: Modify the Registry

This is something we have been doing since Windows 8. When the installer runs, it creates a registry key with a value that is prefixed with erroneous data.

Save the following to VPNFix.reg and run it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Windows

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesCVirtA]
'DisplayName'='Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows'

Step 8: Finish Configuring

Now, you can open the Cisco VPN Client and continue configuring as per previous versions of Windows (create a new Host and provide required credentials.)

Step 9: 'Major' updates

Once in a while, Microsoft will deploy a build big enough (seems to coincide with Patch Tuesday...) When this happens, Windows will re-examine the system for software they deem not compatible and will render the VPN Client inert. The fix is to use Add or Remove Programs and Repair the Cisco VPN Client. Takes about 5 seconds and it will start working again.

You will then have to re-run Step 7 to fix the registry key again.

*One option to avoid this might be to remove the permissions from the Registry key, but I haven't tried that yet.

Make a ZIP file with all the files you need and label them Step1,2,3 and modify your instructions to your End-Users to run 1,2,3 and it should cut down your support calls for new Installs. Hope it helps.

I'm on the insider build with fast track downloads. Happens to me about every 3 weeks. Use Appwiz.cpl to Repair and you are good to go again...

that does work and then with regfix.

Though, something with the last couple builds with a fresh windows install (no other software) wont allow install of DNE or cisco. windows error 'network component installation requires a reboot first, to free locked resources. run install again again after restarting the computer' citrix forums fixes not much help

only fix i saw for 'fresh win10 install with latest updates' was to use the dell sonicwall client had back on blog several months ago.

Forgot about Regfix, I will update instructions with that.

Haven't run into the error you describe. So far, it's been just repairs for me every 3 weeks or so...
